Patriotic Oreo Truffles: A No-Bake 4th of July Dessert

It’s summer — too hot to turn on the oven for baking. You need easy no bake summer desserts like these fun Oreo balls. Oreo truffles are perfect for summer days, a go-to 4th of July party dessert and an easy summer bbq dessert.

The first time I tried an Oreo truffle, I was honestly floored. They were so decadent and good, and then I was even more floored when I heard how simple they are to make.

All it takes to make these crowd pleasers is mixing smashed Oreos and cream cheese, finished with a quick dip in melted chocolate or candy coating. (Their cousin, the golden Oreo truffle, is also delicious).

Plus, they’re easy to make festive for any occasion by using different colors or decorations, like these patriotic ones in red, white and blue.

Let’s make some truffles!

3. Use a hand mixer to mix crushed Oreos, cream cheese and a pinch of salt until fully combined. Start your hand-mixer on low so the Oreo dust doesn’t fly up and gradually increase to medium speed.

5. Put Oreo balls in the freezer for about 10 minutes to chill before candy coating.

6. While Oreo balls chill, pour ½ cup of candy melt pieces into a microwave safe cup or small bowl. Add ½ teaspoon of oil to start.

NOTE: Getting the right consistency for the candy melts will depend on your candy melts, microwave and oil. Start slow with oil amount & cook time and check it frequently. Adding too much oil will prevent the candy coating from firming up.

7. Microwave white candy melts for 30 seconds at half power. Stir and microwave again for another 30 seconds. Add a little more oil if needed. The consistency should run off the spoon like paint, not water. My microwave took 1:15 cook time to get a smooth liquid.

8. Place an Oreo ball on a fork and gently spoon the melted candy coating over until it is well coated. Allow excess coating to run off by very gently shaking the fork.

9. Return the ball to parchment and allow the coating to harden. Repeat with a third of the balls.

10. Heat the red candy melts following the same process. Drizzle on top of the white coated Oreo balls.

11. Once drizzle is complete, use the red candy melt to coat the remaining uncoated balls following the same process. Reheat and/or add more candy melt as needed. Once the remaining balls are coated, reheat the white candy melt and use it to drizzle on the red Oreo balls.

12. Repeat the process again with the blue candy melts, coating the remaining Oreo balls and drizzling blue on the white and red balls.

13. Allow balls to set in the fridge for at least an hour. You can also freeze them for 2 months. Thaw them in the freezer so they don’t get condensation while defrosting.
