Dirt Cake Cookies (Crumbl Cookie Copycat)

These dirt cake cookies are a Crumbl cookie copycat that tastes just like the classic dirt cake you grew up with. They’re an easier spin on a dirt cake recipe, with a soft chocolate cookie base making them a perfect handheld dessert for parties.

On top goes a ganache buttercream that’s creamy, fudgy, and way better than plain frosting. Crushed Oreos make the “dirt,” and a gummy worm or two gives them the playful finish.

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour

Frosting & Toppings

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 5 Oreo cookies, filling removed and crushed
  • Gummy worms for decoration

Steps to Make Dirt Cake Cookies

1. Heat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Cream softened butter and brown sugar in a stand mixer until smooth. Add egg and vanilla, mixing until combined and scraping bowl sides frequently.

3. Add flour, salt, baking soda, and cocoa powder. Mix well, scraping sides as needed.

4. Use a large ice cream scoop to portion dough onto baking sheets, leaving several inches between cookies.

5. Bake 10-12 minutes until centers are set. Cool completely before decorating.

6. For frosting, beat softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cocoa powder in stand mixer on low until combined. Increase to medium speed and whip until smooth, scraping sides as needed.

7. Microwave chocolate chips and heavy cream in a bowl for 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth. Cool to room temperature.

8. Add cooled ganache to frosting and whip on medium until smooth and fluffy. Transfer to piping bag with large round tip.

9. Crush Oreo cookies in food processor until finely ground.

10. Pipe frosting in spirals on cooled cookies.
